Rozan Byakudan Incense - Mysore Sandalwood

Sale price$ 110.00

Made from Mysore sandalwood, the most prized of all sandalwood: cool and clear at first, then softly warm, for the quiet hours of the day.

Rozan Byakudan is the name Japanese incense makers give to sandalwood from Mysore, India, long regarded as the benchmark against which all other sandalwood is judged. Kousaido, an incense house on Kyoto’s Karasuma-dori, builds this incense around the finest of that wood.

The scent is quieter than you might expect from sandalwood. It opens with a cool, almost airy clarity, like a breeze passing through an old wooden hall, then settles into the soft, creamy warmth the wood is known for. That warmth lingers in the room long after the stick has burned down.

Light a stick in the evening while the house winds down, or in the morning before the day begins. One stick burns for twenty to thirty minutes, long enough to change the feel of a room and short enough to fit into the small pauses of a day.

For anyone who has only known heavier, perfumed incense, Rozan Byakudan is a gentle place to start: the finest sandalwood, presented without ornament.

Contains 1.8 oz of incense, approx. 75 sticks.
